Sneak Peek

Exciting news to come...and no, its not that we are offering Tai Chi in our parking lot :-)

A Spring in Your Step

For some women it is the first thing that pops into their minds when putting together their wedding ensemble.  For others, it is the last.  We're talking about shoes, of course!  Shoes can be more than a pretty cover for your feet.  With wedding gowns, they can complete the bridal picture.  There are several companies we carry, including Pink and Dyeables.  We recommend to start thinking about shoes before you start the alteration process, preferably after your gown comes in from order.  Shoes generally take 4-6 weeks to order in, especially if you are having them custom dyed.  It can be very fun to add a pop of color to your whites and ivories!
One of our brides from last year.  Lovely shoe choice!

The "Other" Dress

Engagement pictures can be so much fun for the bride and groom.  It is the opportunity to capture a range of emotions from funny to sweet to romantic.  The Royal Family just released the official engagement pictures for Prince William and Kate Middleton.  Very gorgeous and classy dress choice!  We recommend choosing a dress that makes you feel comfortable but elegant at the same time.  This is like a preview to your wedding!  Choosing an informal, bridesmaid style in a subtle color would look great.  Keep in mind you can always pull double duty and wear the gown as your rehearsal dinner dress too!

More Enzoani!

Hooray!  We have received more stock wedding gowns from Blue by Enzoani.  We are supremely impressed with the high level of craftsmanship displayed in these dresses.  They look even better on, so it is highly recommended that you brides come in quick to try these beauties on!

Dalby

Dalby has a classic, old Hollywood feel to it.  The gown is a confection of tulle and lace.  The crystal beaded belt is attached to the gown, but can definitely be changed to a ribbon if bling isn't your style.  The skirt swirls out in tiers of lace.

To top it all off, Dalat is accessorized with a some pearls and crystals from Meg.  The exaggerated, circle cut veil from Giselle gives you the perfect amount of airiness and charm.  Very Grace Kelly!
Dalat

Dalat hits the mark in terms of mixing modern taste with classic style.  The gown is made of lace and organza, with the waist accented with an attached belt, very similar to their Farlow belt.  The skirt has a subtle lace overlay that skims the hips for a very flattering look.

This gown is best paired with gobs of pearls and a Mantilla veil by Bel Aire Bridal.

Casablanca

Casablanca is a fitted, mermaid style gown.  The skirt of the gown is covered in delicate lace.  The top is a ruched mix of chiffon and lace.

The look is completed with great pearls from Elan a Porte and Meg Jewelery.  The fun headpiece, from En Vogue, gives the classic gown a pop of fun.

Think Pink!

Normally, when you read through the Wall Street Journal, you're not expecting to read something that could effect your wedding color choice.  This morning the unexpected happened!  According to WSJ, "color authority," Pantone has deemed honeysuckle the hot, new color.  In recent seasons, The Dessy Group partnered with Pantone and have made several of their gowns available in Pantone's best colors.  Honeysuckle is described as very bright, "60's lipstick" pink.  Hopefully we will be seeing some of Dessy's bridesmaid gowns in this fabulous, honeysuckle color!

Meet the Staff, Pt. 7

The newest member of our staff has brought a lot of nostalgia to the store.  Shelly is one of our sales consultants and seems to know everyone who walks through the door.  "The craziest encounter I've had so far is when I met one of my brides and it turned out we played soccer together in elementary school!"  She has been with Mia's since August and is quickly learning the ins and outs of our store.  "All the gowns are so beautiful, but I realized that just because it is beautiful, doesn't mean it will translate on to every bride.  Preferences and personal style are so important."

"I am really looking forward to start having bridal parties complete their arc with me.  It will be fun to see one of my brides when it is finally her wedding week."

Fairy Tale

Casablanca #2035 is one of our wonderful, new stock gowns.  It has a very flattering baby doll bust and then the skirt just floats down with a heavenly, netted skirt.  The netting is embroidered and beaded.  The gown strikes us very fairy like...soft and ethereal.  Maybe you'll actually float down the aisle?

It pairs great with Bel Aire veil #V7013 and Meg's Mae necklace.

Meet the Staff, Pt. 6

Lets catch up with our resident silver polisher and visual coordinator, Andrea.  She has been with our store for nearly two years as a bridal consultant.  Nearly a year ago, she was made our store's visual coordinator after the amazing work she did designing our booth at the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show.  "I like it that twice a year I can create an atmosphere that is inviting for brides to learn about our store at a chaotic event.  PWG is a fun time, but can be overwhelming for some."

Andrea's passion for vintage and recycled items is evident in her work.  This past spring her window displays were created from used soda bottles and she scoops up vintage wedding gowns for inspiration.  "Maybe its the bargain shopper in me, but I now have two vintage wedding gowns for whenever it is that time for me to walk down the aisle."  Is that time close?  "Not until they can clone Burt Reynolds circa 1980."

Icing on the Cake

It is always important for a bride to try her wedding gown on after it arrives in from order and BEFORE she starts alterations.  We recommend a Finishing Touches appointment for all brides.  This is an opportunity for the bride to try on her very own dress and sample some accessories with them at the same time.  It always make the wedding process more real when you can actually feel a dress in your size and preferred color.  Veils can be tried on in matching colors, necklaces and earrings will coordinate so much better.

We carry numerous jewelry lines in our store.  One of our favorites is Meg Jewelery.  The designer, Meg Lammers, is so creative and classic - all at the same time.  We normally host a trunk show with Meg twice a year and she is wonderful with customizations!  Her pieces use Swarovski crystals, fresh water pearls, and sterling silver.  Her items are definitely heirloom quality and it is nice to know you can be the beginning of a family tradition.

J'adore!

As mentioned previously, we LOVE the winter around here because it means new gowns for in the store.  Today was especially great because we now have two new gowns which are unlike anything else here.  The first is Jasmine T435.  This gown is for the bride who loves attention because that is what this big, fun skirt demands!  The belt is detachable and comes is a variety of colors.  We love the contrast with the black.

The other gown is Mori Lee 6701.  We love the hi-lo hemline, which keeps the gown fun and perfect for showing off some killer shoes.  It reminds us of Sex and the City...very Carrie Bradshaw-esque, no?  And of course, since it is a Mori Lee, the price tag is under $600.  That is a price every fashionista can appreciate!

Today has been a nice, steady day at the shop.  Lots of brides are taking advantage of our great sample sale deals and getting 15% off the dress of their dreams.  A wedding gowns beats an HDTV any day, right ladies?

Mia took advantage of Black Friday deals and picked up some great goodies for our Toys for Tots drive.  You know some little girl is going to love unwrapping that pink bicycle on Christmas morning!

We're accepting new, unwrapped toys through mid-December!

Gobble Gobble

This week is going to fly by!  Tomorrow we are closing early at 1pm so we can all go home and make pies for Thanksgiving.  Well...actually most of us will be buying pies (using a credit card makes you a domestic diva, right?).  Friday and Saturday will be a blast, though!  The Black Friday Blowout Sale is on Friday and then its another fun Saturday.  We still have times available for both days, so round up your closest loved ones and come in to try on some dresses!

Our MEG Bride is taking a much needed turkey nap :-)

Holiday Spirit

Very exciting news!  Our store has been approved as on official drop off location for Toys for Tots.  We'll be accepting new, unwrapped toys between now and mid-December.  Call us if you have any questions.  This is a great way to improve your karma for the holiday season :-)

Novel Idea

Alfred Angelo 2063
Lately we have been hearing from our brides that they are a bit exhausted with the strapless trend.  While it will always be a popular and flattering choice for brides, we are very enthusiastic about new gowns that have straps.  Straps give the bride a little bit more support and coverage, while maintaining an elegant and modern look.  Mia is a particular fan of the strap trend.  "They are wonderful at elongating a woman's neck.  Usually an bit of added bling to the strap acts as jewelery, giving her a fabulous, unique look.  Straps are just so stylish"

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
~ Coco Chanel

A Helping Hand

We're in the final push for our winter clothing drive for Veronica's Voice.  This is an amazing charity in KC that helps sexually exploited women get back on their feet through a range of supportive services.  We've received a number of donations already but these women can always use more.  Especially now they are needing sweatshirts, coats, socks, etc..
Check out their website to find more information about needed items and what a wonderful organization this is.
We are accepting items through the end of the month!

Meet the Staff, Pt. 5

It seemed like a good time to showcase our next staff member, since in the next month her photo will no longer be relevant :-)  Darcie is one of our great sales consultants and has been with us since June.  She loves a bride with a strong opinion.  "If a bride brings a large party with her to try on, her voice can get lost in the crowd.  She has to know that the final choice is her's."

So what is Darcie going to miss most when she's on maternity leave?  "All the new dresses coming in!  I already have a new favorite with Casablanca 2016.  It is so elegant."  The brides are going to miss her...Darcie has quickly become a favorite on our sales staff.

Magnificent Mori Lee

Angelina Faccenda 20205
Mori Lee Blu 4808
One of the great companies we carry in our store is Mori Lee.  They carry gowns for everyone!  The five bridal lines they carry encompass every type of bride, no matter their style preferences or budget.  We greatly recommend their Blu line because of its affordability and quality.
Mori Lee's bridesmaids lines echo the diversity of their bridal lines.  With four different collections, they cover classic to fashion forward styles...all within reasonable prices.
The flowergirl collection is particulary cute, with styles complementing others found throughout the multiple Mori Lee collections.
No matter what the budget or style is, Mori Lee delivers on high expectations!

The Royal Treatment

Apparently it was the weekend of celeb engagements!  Prince William and his long-time love, Kate Middleton FINALLY got engaged (he used his mom's ring - so sweet).  What kind of gown do you see her wearing down that long aisle at St Paul's?  We're thinking something modern but still traditional.  Maybe Dabra by Blue by Enzoani!  The jacket makes you think of Princess Di's gown.  And of course it has the proper coverage the Queen might require :-)

Sweetness

Another wonderful, wedding weekend has passed and the pictures have started to come in.  This weekend our lovely bride, Andrea, was married (in the same church her parents got married in over 25 years ago).  To make it even sweeter, she walked down the aisle to a song her husband wrote for her.  Doesn't Dayle look like a dream on her?  We love the bold, red roses!  Best wishes, Andrea!!!

Ring-A-Ding

Dang, the one Saturday we wish we had off to go to the mall!!  Newly engaged Jessica Simpson was in town this weekend showing off her ruby rock!  Should have came by the store, Jessica!  You'd look amazing in Scarlet by Maggie Sottero!

Howl

Last year, our Alterations department got the slightly odd request to help create a Werewolf costume.  Local performer Rich Clauser works at local "haunted" spots and sent us a fun update of how his Halloween season went this year...

Meet the Staff, Pt. 4

Today we'll be focusing on our very important Steaming and Receiving Specialist, Nancy!  She has been with Mia's for nearly three and a half years.  In that time Nancy has become an expert almost everything in the store.  Her favorite bridal moment is when brides come in and try on gowns for the first time.  "The feeling is more special than when they were just searching for a gown online.  It becomes real."

Nancy is the one who double checks all the gowns and items that come in from order - making sure everything is perfect.  "People can get so nervous as items come in and the wedding gets closer.  I just want to do my best by making sure items are spotless and in excellent condition for them."

Delightful Dessy

One of our favorite bridesmaid lines here is Dessy.  They have modern, fashion forward (yet classic) style options for every price range.
Their more modest price range (between $160-$170) is with the Alfred Sung line.  Recently, the line has geared in a 60's, mod direction.  The gowns have great box pleats to give the gowns big, party skirts.
D458

The middle-range option (between $170-$200) is the line AfterSix.  You'll find a great range of styles and fabrics here.
#6576

Their top of the line collection ($190+) is the namesake line, Dessy.  You'll find get materials and super classy styles with them.  This in the line you will find sumptuous silks and rich satins.  Very upscale.

Just got pictures in from one of our gorgeous, October Brides...Audra!  She wore an ivory lace, Mori Lee Blu gown.  Very simple and elegant.  Congrats Audra!

Good Vibes

Some wonderful reviews from recent brides!  Thanks ladies...you make our jobs fun!

"The ladies at Mia's were amazing! I had no worries. Nicole in the tux department was especially helpful. I don't feel like I called that often but she always knew my name and all the details of the wedding without the file (or it seemed that way) and that made me feel special. Thanks again ladies!" ~ Anonymous Bride, wedding date 10/16/10

"Thanks for all your help with Evan & Amanda's wedding. The dresses and tuxes were perfect!!! You guys helped make a stressful situation wonderful!! KUDOS to MIA'S!!!" ~ Laura Titzman Redeker, Mother of the Bride, wedding date 8/28/10

"I did not buy my dress from MIA's but I truly wish i did. I went there looking for a veil or headband to wear with my dress. They totally went over the top to help me even with just a $30 purchase. Please, check them out first ladies!" ~ Mandy, 8/21/10

"Perfect place to go - looks can be deceiving! Didn't realize the amazing selection they had and it was so easy, thanks to the staff, to find the perfect gown. I never felt pressured - and felt that they wanted me to look and feel as a queen as I did!" ~ Kimberley, wedding date 7/17/10

Thru the Looking Glass

There is a definite crisp in the air and with a new month comes a new window display!  The new display has a flirtatious feel to it and reminds us a lot of the new Christina Aguilera movie Burlesque.  Fun! Fun! Fun!

Showcased in the middle is a new LaSposa "Danesa."  So beautiful with all its tulle and lace!

Meet the Staff, Pt. 3

So our Maggie Sottero Trunk Show this past weekend was a phenomenal success!  Our top selling consultant was our lovely, Floor Manager, Claire.  She has been with our store for nearly a year and has taken on the manager role with gusto, all while planning her own wedding this past spring.  "I wore Maggie's "Coco" for my wedding, but if "Destiny" had been available when I was ordering - watch out.  I would have rocked that pouf!"

Claire is now gearing up for the holiday season with Santa earrings but still likes to mix in some Meg Jewelry from time to time.  "Her pieces are so classy and fun.  A definite perk of this job is getting to wear a different pair of fancy earrings everyday."

omg!

Our visual coordinator and bridal consultant, Andrea, has done it again!  We just received a few new belts from Enzoani and needed a new way to display all the different belts in our store.  She came up with this couture display.  We almost wish it was a real dress for brides to try on - to die for!

Meet the Staff, Pt. 2

Its time again to get acquainted with our fantastic staff!  Today we'll focus on our receptionist, Nikki.  She has been with Mia's for a year and a half.  Her favorite bridal moment is when the bride goes outside her comfort zone when trying on different styles.  "Usually, a woman thinks she really knows her style, but then tries on something totally different - the reactions are priceless!"

Since she handles a majority of the calls coming into the store, Nikki tries to be versed on most aspects of the store.  "You never know whose calling, so you try your best to be a jack of all trades."

Teenage Dream

We are exhausted after the Casablanca trunk show this past weekend and this week should be no exception!  Our big Maggie Sottero trunk show is Thursday afternoon - Saturday and brides have not stopped calling about it.  Maggie gowns always have such wonderful quality and classic styles.  Their gown, Nora, is very couture and perfect for the fashion forward bride - ready to show off her personality!  Kind of like recent celeb bride Katy Perry with her Elie Saab custom couture gown.  You know if she was a Maggie bride that she would add some crazy peacock feathers to her hair for effect :-)

¡Que Bonita!

We just received a few new wedding gowns from La Sposa, a wonderful Spanish line.  There is one in particular, Dover, from their 2011 Chic Collection.  The gown really shines with understated glamour.  Dover is covered in lace and accented with a chic bow along its empire waist.  The bust is very unique with a scallop lace edge.  Dover has a singular sweetness to it which would really compliment a girly bride.

Meet the Staff, Pt. 1

Its time to get better acquainted with our lovely ladies here at Mia's!  This week we'll be profiling Jessica, our tux specialist!  Her favorite bridal moment is when "the bride makes her grand entrance and everyone turns to look at her.  Thats when I look at the groom's face - that says it all."

Jessica has been our tux specialist for over four years, and a part of Mia's Bridal for six years.  She really knows how to make the guys really shine and compliment the gals in the bridal party!

Anticipation

Its another busy day here at the shop!  Saturdays are always crazy but we can't wait for next weekend when the Casablanca Trunk Show rolls into town.  We'll be receiving 12 styles in the store that we normally don't have.  There is one in particular that is unlike anything we have in our store, style #2004.  It has all-over, gorgeous lace and an unique bateau neckline.  The really stunning part of the gown is the back, with an extraordinary, cut-out lace design.  It really works well for the bride who needs modesty for the ceremony, but wants to maintain some sexiness for the reception.  #2004 has a wonderful, vintage vibe.  It would be great for an urban wedding...

American Dream

Want to start out this post with a Happy (belated) Birthday to Mia!  In her life she has accomplished and built so much since moving to America nearly 30 years ago from Korea.  She started out in tailoring and expanded over the years into the wedding industry.  Her goal was (and still is) to provide great customer service and personal attention to the entire wedding party.
Mia maintains that she is living the American Dream...owning and running her own successful business, raising her two daughters, and keeping her community ties strong.  Mia and her staff regularly give back to the community by participating in charity runs and, most recently, taking in food pantry donations for the Salvation Army.
Happy Birthday Mia!
And thanks so much for all you do!

Fresh Fall

Ahhh...we have the doors wide open here at the shop enjoying the gorgeous autumn air!  Its so exciting in October for us at Mia's for so many reasons.  The first is because October is the second busiest month of the year for weddings (did you know that?  It is always so surprising but you can't blame couples for wanting to take advantage of cooler temps)!
The second reason we love October here at Mia's is because it is almost like Christmas because of the new Spring stock we start getting in from our designers.  We are super excited because between now and February we should be receiving over 100 new bridal, bridesmaid, and mother's gowns for our in-store stock!  We picked up two new lines for the Spring that we are very excited to get...
The first line is Blue by Enzoani.  Their gowns are beautifully constructed with a focus on fit and detail.  They also specialize in bridal accessories, with amazing belts and jackets!  Currently we're obsessing over Dalby (one of the stock gowns due in), which has a wonderfully full skirt and the belt is out of this world!

We should be receiving Delaware very soon!  And it is such a classic, clean style...sure to compliment any bride.

The other wedding gown line we picked up is Jasmine Couture.  They use such a great grade of quality on their gowns, with an emphasis on customization.  Their gown, T394, is definitely for the bride who enjoys a bit of drama :-)
